Yoruba People’s Forum (YPF) is an organisation formed to “promote unity, partnership working, advocacy, co-operation, social and economic inclusion, and cultural development among the diverse Yoruba communities in the diasporas.”

Yoruba are a part of the more than 200 nationalities, inhabiting the federal Republic of Nigeria. Yoruba are peoples of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states. Yoruba constitute 80 percent of Kwara state and 30 percent of Kogi state in he middle-belt zone of Nigeria. There are also Yoruba in Delta and Edo states. In fact, the Itsekiri of Delta State, though a distinct group, regard themselves as Kith and Kin of the Yoruba Nation.

Yoruba can be found in the Benin Republic, Ghana and Togo, Descendants of Yoruba are also in the Diaspora (Brazil, Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Tobago, etc.) especially in the United States of America and Latin America where the Yoruba methods of worship form the basis of the traditional religious among descendants of Africans in those countries. There is up to a five-hundred thousand strong Yoruba community residing and working in the United Kingdom today.

In the thousands of years that the Yoruba have been living on the part of the earth that OLODUMARE (Emmanuel) gave us, Yoruba had evolved an intricate system of governance and civil society which have withstood the onslaughts of many wars, notably the KIRIJI War of 23rd September 1886, internal strife, constitution crises, slavery and colonialism.

Yoruba nation began from numerous self-governing settlements and principalities, otherwise known as Kingdom – Ilu Oloba. YPF is significant to unite us together beyond our vicinity; Yoruba youth and children need to be brought together for social and cultural exposures.
